Little Instructions
for Surviving Your Divorce
A
No-Nonsense Guide
to the Challenges at Hand
Why did you write this book?
Because
Ive seen so many people tear each other up, and worst of all ruin
their children, through the divorce process.
What
is the most important goal in a divorce?
The
most important goal is individual for each person. Some people need
to make sure they provide for their needs and their childrens
needs. Some people want to make sure they are primary caretakers of
their children. Some people just need to get out with dignity.
What is the biggest mistake you think people make with children during a
divorce?
Treating
them like little adults expecting them to understand what is
happening and to be supportive to the adults.
As an attorney practicing in this field, what is your goal in helping
your client?
Discovering
the facts so I can advise my clients about their options, so they
can make informed decisions.
Are divorce cases anything like they show on TV?
Hardly
ever.
Why is this book different from the other hundreds of divorce books on
the market?
Because
it tells people what they need to hear, not what they want to hear.
Where do people going through divorce or custody actions get support?
They
can get it from friends and family, or from community support
groups, or even on the Internet now.
What criteria should people use to choose an attorney?
Those
seeking counsel should interview several attorneys before choosing
one. You do not necessarily take the one that promises the most, but
should pick the one whose philosophy of the case most closely agrees
with yours.
What can parents do to enforce their custody or support rights?
There
are mechanisms to make those happen in places in every state. Ask a
local practitioner.
Is alimony still available for spouses that need it?
Yes,
though it is not given out as freely as it was in the past.
